Web Accessibility

In keeping with our commitment to providing accessible services to library visitors, we want to ensure that the information available on our website is also accessible. Our goal is to deliver a web experience that meets or exceeds the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), version 2.1.

At the Library

To help ensure our visitors have a safe, enjoyable and convenient experience at the library, our building is equipped with:

  • Wheelchair access and automated doors on both levels
  • Designated accessible parking spaces
  • Elevator access between two levels
  • Drive-Up and Walk-Up Book Returns near the lower-level entrance 

Assistive and Adaptive Technology

We have computers available for use by the public with Windows’ Ease of Access accessibility options, which include a magnifier, text-to-speech functionality, larger on-screen keyboards, high-contrast viewing modes and other ways to personalize your experience.

Our SimpleScan station, used to scan documents to email or storage devices and to send domestic faxes, is equipped with audio and visual assistance tools. The SimpleScan station is free to use.

Accommodations at Programs

We provide reasonable accommodations such as ASL (American Sign Language) interpreters, closed captioning and presentation transcripts at library events. Persons requiring reasonable accommodation to attend or participate in a library event should contact the library’s ADA Coordinator at least 7 days prior to the program. Customized library tours for individuals, families and groups with cognitive or physical disabilities can be arranged, schedule permitting, by emailing or calling adultservices@warrenville.com, 630-393-1171 x121, or youthservices@warrenville.com at 630/393-1171 x124.

Digital Selections

Free digital content (books, audiobooks, magazines, video) can be checked out to download or stream at any time with your library card. Some of the features of these digital resources include:

  • Dyslexic font options
  • Color variation settings
  • Text resizing and zoom options

Additional Formats

The following additional content formats are available: Audiobook CDs, Playaway Launchpad (pre-loaded audio) and Large Print. To search our catalog for materials in these formats, apply the desired filter under the Format field in the Narrow Your Search query.

DVDs with closed captions and subtitles are also available for checkout.

Other Library Services

Homebound Delivery

Staff will bring books, CDs, DVDs and magazines to those unable to get to the library due to temporary or permanent health issues. For more information, visit our Homebound Delivery Services webpage.

Illinois Assistive Technology Program (IATP)

The Illinois Assistive Technology Program has been working to increase access to and acquisition of assistive technologies for Illinois residents since 1989. Requesting an existing product or a customized device specific to your needs is free for all Illinois residents with disabilities and/or health-related conditions.

National Library Service at the Library of Congress (NLS)

The National Library Service (NLS) is a free braille and talking book library service for people with temporary or permanent low vision, blindness, or a physical, perceptual or reading disability that prevents them from using regular print materials.

Talking Book and Braille Service (TBBS)

The Illinois State Library offers this service via mail or digital download to any Illinois resident unable to read standard print material due to a permanent or temporary visual or physical disability. Visit the NLS for more information on eligibility guidelines. Librarians can act as a certifying authority to sign applications for TBBS.
